Responsibilities

The Data Architect for the Email Marketing group will be an integral component of Brookdale Senior Living’s corporate email marketing program by focusing on a mix of automation, analytics, data flows and technology. Reporting to the Director of Direct Response, this position will optimize the functionality of our marketing data strategies and tactics that ultimately drive growth.

 

Leveraging Salesforce Marketing Cloud, this position will provide data needs as part of the Email Team and partner across the Brookdale footprint (Marketing, IT, Resident & Family, and Sales Operations, etc.) to develop new email and SMS campaigns that help achieve the organization’s goals using a data-driven test and learn approach.

  1. Develops and manages user journeys, automation platforms, complex data segmentation and personalization across the customer lifecycle with the goal of driving inquiries, visits and move-ins.
  2. Identifies and administers data opportunities for a broad set of automated, triggered and manually-sent communications throughout the customer lifecycle.
  3. Stays current with email automation best practices and general innovations, assesses applicability to Brookdale’s email program and then builds on successes and makes recommendations for future improvements.
  4. Provides leadership and collaborates with key business partners such as Marketing, Operations, and IT to facilitate discussion, make data-driven decisions to optimize the customer journey and aligns the email program with Brookdale’s overall customer experience and brand strategy.
  5. Works with data architecture leaders and developers to establish standards and best practices in the design, development and use of master data management and data virtualization solutions.
  6. Works directly with business users as required to ensure support of business objectives. Responsible for full knowledge of related business functions and having good understanding of technical knowledge of all phases of data services projects.
  7. Designs, models/develops, tests, documents, and implements new and existing enterprise-wide data virtualization solutions. Responsible for leading and monitoring the work of other team members.
  8. Conducts data virtualization architecture design reviews with data architects, analysts and developers. Responsible for supporting best practices, quality assurance review, security, and ensuring sustainability of the data services.
  9. Conducts data quality reviews and assists in the administration and management of enterprise data governance practices.
  10. Performs estimates, analysis, design, validation, and other tasks as required to support project planning and objectives. Utilizes appropriate project management techniques and methodologies.
  11. Supports the identification and resolution of application and technical issues.
  12. Assists in the change management process, adhering to the defined change management guidelines.
  13. Contributes skills to affect team’s success. Supports other project teams and co-team members as appropriate. Conducts training for subject matter experts, technical and functional alike.
  14. Communicates status to manager and/or project leader.
  15. Remains current on emerging technologies.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) from four-year college or university preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least eight years experience designing, constructing, and implementing enterprise-level business applications. Experience with master data management concepts, data governance and stewardship, enterprise use cases, data analysis, data modeling, ETL, and use of open source technologies. Proven track record of delivering quality, critical, enterprise systems.
  • Experience using Salesforce Marketing Cloud data integrations: cloud connector, data extensions and integration with third party platforms, etc. required.
  • Strong knowledge of AMPscript and SQL; working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, a plus.
  • Strong understanding of data transfer/data mapping techniques: API, SFTP and manual file uploads.
  • Familiarity working with CDP, DMP and/or CRM for data needs.
  • Deep understanding of all aspects of email marketing including business strategy, deliverability, testing and optimization, database segmentation and analytics, optimization, CAN-SPAM and other compliance regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, especially Excel.
  • Knowledge of test and learn practices (A/B Testing, Multivariate Testing, etc.).
  • Inquisitive, detail-oriented, and able to communicate and resolve issues effectively.
  • Interpersonal skills: exceptional verbal/written communication, listening and presentation skills.
  • Highly self-motivated contributor with a can-do attitude who works well as an individual and within a team environment.

 

Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special Requirements

Salesforce Marketing Cloud Certifications (Developer, Administrator, Consultant), a plus.

 

Management/Decision Making
Applies existing guidelines and procedures to make varied decisions within a department. Uses solid analytical skills, sound judgment, and experience to solve complex problems where limited precedents/guidelines exist.

 

Knowledge and Skills

Expert experience with relational databases (SQL, Schema modeling, Performance tuning, etc.), with Salesforce Marketing Cloud preferred. Proficient in enterprise data modeling, master data management implementation, and data quality assessment. Strong working knowledge of data governance practices, data security standards, integration patterns, and data virtualization solutions. Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, organizational and project management skills, as well as passion for data, application integration, data services and governance, and providing technical leadership and partnership with a variety of teams and people.
