Responsibilities
The VP, Divisional Clinical Services is responsible for leadership and oversight including policy development, strategic planning, budget, regulatory and care management oversight, management of nursing personnel, staff development, implementing and leading the execution of clinical services, programs, and quality for the Division’s assigned senior living communities. This position leads a high-performing clinical team capable of achieving clinical goals and objectives that align with the Division’s overall business plan and financial objectives. Acts as a strategic partner to sales and operations teams in order to drive occupancy and revenue growth.
- Disseminates the strategic vision for the delivery of care across the assigned Division’s portfolio of communities as well as the overall delivery of clinical services and care of Brookdale residents.
- Implements healthcare and clinical processes, programs, policies and procedures, including resident care standards and documentation systems to ensure care and services rendered to residents are clinically appropriate and promote optimum efficiencies.
- Provides input with education and training programs and monitors compliance with clinical education, including new hire orientation for Health & Wellness Directors (HWD).
- Completes internal and external investigations (i.e. Integrity line calls, complaint surveys, serious family concerns).
- Leads a high-performing Clinical Services team, including direct and indirect supervision of the Division’s Clinical Services team and matrixed management of community clinical positions. Responsible for attracting, engaging, developing, and retaining clinical services support positions Maintains a constant focus on the role of the HWD, which serves as the clinical leader of each Brookdale community.
- Actively identifies opportunities for growth, savings, and efficiencies, as well as risks to the Division’s budgeted business plans.
- Builds relationships within the healthcare continuum to drive business and revenue for Brookdale and to effectively manage suppliers of healthcare products and services. This includes participating in developing and managing relationships, supplier-related programs, such as the Pharmacy program, immunization clinics, EHR management, and vendor business reviews within the Division.
- Oversees the Division’s quality efforts by utilizing data to identify trends and implementing quality improvement actions. Utilizes Brookdale Excellence Standards Tool (BEST) audits to update policies & procedures, develop enhanced decision-support tools, and/or re-focus education and training efforts. Provides leadership to the Division’s Personal Solutions program.
- Manages the Division’s clinical budgets to meet clinical objectives. Partners on healthcare labor management methodology, hour management, budget guidance, and recommended application improvements that are consistent with Brookdale’s objectives of regulatory high-quality care and meeting the needs of its residents.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.N.) from a four-year college or university; MBA preferred but not required; and five to seven years of related experience and/or training. Additional years of relevant experience can be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis. Direct experience with seniors is required. Experience in leading and managing clinical programs and teams including quality programs and scorecards and the ability to sponsor and manage the use of electronic health records.
Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special Requirements
Licensed as a registered nurse. Credentialing/certification in Gerontology Nursing through ANCC preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a private vehicle for business travel.

Uses independent judgment to establish community procedures and overall strategic direction. Solves multifaceted problems that require understanding and evaluation of impacts on the communities and/or major divisions of the Company. Demonstrates leadership skills to be responsible for the overall direction, and coordination of clinical operations for the Company. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws.
Knowledge and Skills
Possesses extensive knowledge of several multifaceted professional disciplines and maintains extensive theoretical business and industry knowledge. Provides overall leadership and direction to the communities and/or major divisions of the Company. Ability to maintain the highest standards of ethical professional and clinical judgment. Effective written and oral communication skills are essential. Familiarity with Microsoft software is a must. The ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks is essential. Ability to delegate assignments to the appropriate individuals based on their skills, roles, and interests. Demonstrates good judgment and strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Strategic-minded with strong leadership, and critical thinking skills in order to advance the division’s clinical competencies to support Brookdale’s vision to become the nation’s first choice in senior living. Represents as a strong clinician with solid business and financial acumen.
